Theme variant does't work

Hi,
I have just installed PaperModX theme on my Hugo dev server but unfortunately theme switch doesn't work. I tried to force dark theme in config
defaultTheme: dark
Generated website is uses light theme. If I try to switch themes with toggle it works fine.
Any help?
