The branch 2.0 works with Intellij IDEA too.

Let me test a new branch 2.0 with IntelliJ IDEA, the new branch won't need any
special configuratión, because it has a java agent to do that

Version 2.0 was released, You can use ppa repository: ppa:danjaredg/jayatana
for testing.

IntelliJ IDEA is supported, only it has a issue with menu, but this bug is
already reported.
