Feature request: add option to disable street/route names in text-to-speech output

Opened this issue · 2 comments

When English-speaking "robot" tells Lithuanian street names the result is funny in best case, or distracting on worse case. And it's mostly distracting, forcing you to "decode" what TTS just said. Route numbers are OK though.

Checkbox allowing to disable street names in voice navigation would fix the issue. It should be enabled by default in order not to break usability for old users of course.

Checkbox could be named "Tell road names when navigating" or similar.

P.S. I would be willing to implement this, if I make debugging work on Ubuntu Touch, and.. find enough free time and energy of course.

Not sure if maneuver engine used allows to skip names at all though, if it's third party.

Have the same situation over here, in Estonia. Try to check out if Valhalla does provide such option these days. Before it wasn't available. Same should be done for each of the routers. HERE instructions are provided within Pure Maps, so that could be adjusted without relying on the service (HERE doesn't provide it).
