Shelf visualisation ideas

The shelf is pretty lame as it is now: not mobile friendly, too big to be useful, etc. Ideas time!

  • Presentation: Stop ordering by rating, but instead show the 5 star books with their cover, like you'd showcase the best books in a store. Bit awkward with series with several 5 star books, but whatever.
  • Size
    • Option 1: Make the books bigger. The joy of browsing is to read the titles and stuff – rendering titles on (much larger) backs sounds cool. To make that possible, show less at once (see Selection)
    • Option 2: Alternatively, show hovered book at the side, like in the graph view?
  • Selection: The bragging shelf has to go – the year and author shelves are fine imo. Undecided on the tag/genre shelves. Instead, I'm imagining some sort of labels at the side, inviting you to switch shelves. (Imagine the possibilities for animations …) Something like this
