dependency on "Titanium Backup" for full backup?

Opened this issue · 1 comments

Assuming you're using also something like Titanium Backup you'll be able to backup and restore all your apps, settings and data.

can you expand on this? what does Titanium Backup cover that android-backup doesn't, and vice versa? i had the impression Titanium Backup already covered everything.

This project is not meant to replace TB. You should use TB for backing up apps + settings. It's an awesome tool.

Benefits

If you use TB' (hopefully encrypted) cloud backups the only extra you'll get from this is backups of the phone's shared storage (the /sdcard partition or an external SD card; basically anything the "Files app shows you). Without TB cloud backup it will indirectly cover "off device backups" for your phone. 😉

Regarding backing up shared storage

Depending on how you configure TB (data) backups it might be missing files saved on the phone's shared storage. This mostly concerns files downloaded (e.g. downloads, e-books, podcasts, videos) or created/saved (e.g. photos, audio recordings) by you. There's a TB setting (called "Backup app external data") which allows you to include these files into TB' backups (with configurable filters/limits; IMHO the default is to include data up to 30MB). Depending on what apps you use this might blow up your backups quite considerably in size.
