How to detect objects at distance greater than 0.5 metres in the distance_to_colour_code?

Through the code i am not able to detect objects at a distance greater than 0.5 metres although i tried changing some values in the code like in the 109th line i changed the 500 to 1000 to detect objects in a range of 1 metres,but nothing happened and the rplidar was not able to detect objects at a range of greater than 0.5 metres.
Kindly Help.
