Oblivion will always crash on startup, whether loaded through OBSE or not

I did a completely fresh install of Oblivion with MO2 and the game will close as soon as it starts without fail. I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Mini-update: I got it to work by renaming OBSE to OblivionLauncher.exe, however by doing that it invalidates the MO2 installation after booting the game up again.

I'm having the same issue. Were you able to find a fix? Manually pointing to OBSE in MO2 doesn't resolve the issue.

I did not, unfortunately.

Found the problem. MO2 2.5.0 doesn't work with current Proton versions.

Downgraded to 4.6.2 of the installer here which installs 2.4.4 of MO2. Worked first try for me.

Absolute life saver. I'm going to test this out right now!

Incorrect, the current Proton version is Proton 9.0 which is based on Wine 9, which has the necessary patch for MO2 to work. If downgrading the installer solves your issue, it's probably because you're using an older Proton version.

Something is wonky then with MO2, because launching MO2 with Proton 9.0.3 (IIRC) on the Steam Deck works fine, but Oblivion doesn't work at all going through MO2. The closest I can get is starting the launcher from MO2 and then it doesn't actually open if you try and start it that way.

Prior to running the installer, Oblivion will launch just fine setting it to Proton 9.0 on a fresh install with no prefix.
