Installer does not detect the prefix

So, I am trying to re-install MO2 on Steam Deck OLED. SteamOS is on the latest "stable" release.
I installed Protontricks from Update and Fallout4 from Steam, and set compat settings for FO4 to proton-9.0. Started the game and exited it from main menu. Also set the two aliases in .bashrc and re-sourced the file to activate them. "protontricks -l" correctly lists the game prefix.
Now, when starting the install, it finds steam, finds the game, and asks me whether to create a clean prefix. I tried both options - if answering "no", I receive an error message about missing prefix. If answering "yes", it first writes "moving prefix 123456 to 123456." in the terminal before showing me the same error message about the missing prefix. Any suggestions?
