Option to not unzip downloads?

Would it be possible to include an option to not unzip files at all? It is possible to read in the zipped files without unzipping them, for example:
terra::rast("/vsizip/PRISM_tmean_early_4kmD2_20240312_bil.zip/PRISM_tmean_early_4kmD2_20240312_bil.bil")This would save on disk space.
