Consider renaming and rebranding this fork of Gitx

Opened this issue · 8 comments

The situation with original (unmaintained?) fork of gitx causes great confusion. There are many forks with decent amounts of commits but it's very hard for a gitx user to find the right one unless he/she is keeping a keen eye on the development. Try telling a user looking for a Mac OS X graphical git client to "just download gitx" (1).

My suggestion is to rename the project to take away the confusion and give the app a new icon.

Alternatively how about working with the original gitx authors to make this fork the "blessed" fork?

+1 for something like this, I only just found this fork after using gitx for years - very glad to see it supports submodules in git 1.7+ repos. It would be good to make this "fork" more discoverable somehow

👍

FYI, I've started a discussion about this over at https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/gitx/5DtfImXvgfI

Thanks for starting the discussion thread, @josharian - I'll weigh in soon.

Just quickly, I have no objections to either rebranding or working with the upstream GitX crowd.

FYI, Pieter weighed in favorably in that email thread. I think the biggest open question here is whether @rowanj wants to be in the hot seat. :)

+1, that would be great: I stumbled upon this awesome fork more or less randomly, and spread the word in my office -- many had never found it, and found only the abandoned versions.

Just saw @rowanj 's post on the google groups: brilliant.

+1, any update on this? Seems like the last update is the last post 5 months ago on the google group.
