The icon is hard to identify in the Mac menu bar

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Maybe it's just because I'm an OG Dropbox user (like from the very very beginning) but I have a really hard time picking out the Maestral icon in my (admittedly full) menu bar, and it's an icon I click fairly frequently actually.

I understand that legally you might not be able to use anything approximating the Dropbox icon, but it sure would be nice to have something easier to spot.

Describe the solution you'd like

Have an option to have an icon more similar to the Dropbox icon.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Allow for setting custom user icons so we can get “creative” ourselves.

Or at the very least, have a more unique silhouette. Circles and squares are super common.

Here's a screenshot of my menu bar for context. Lots of circles in there makes it hard to spot Maestral... it just doesn't stand out enough. A few other boxy icons in there too actually, but the Dropbox open-box icon was a fairly unique shape.

I am happy with the current icon :) but I hear you

Custom icon option would be great!

I welcome any design contributions! This is not my area of expertise, so I'm already glad that the current icon looks halfway decent.

@pbhogan, I believe that the logogram without its encompassing circle would be adequate, or at least an improvement.

Design is something I have a little bit of experience with... I'll see if I can take a crack at it when I get some time.

@samschott The coolest would be is the option to use custom icons.
