Font selection: Can't view fonts within family

In Preferences > Fonts & Colors > Body font > Set..., I cannot view the fonts within a family of fonts. It is just shown as a large grey rectangle. Below are two examples, one of a system font and another of a third-party font. I am using NV 2.0 β5 (8) on macOS 10.12.6 (16G29):
