Images are downloaded on mobile data despite setting Wi-Fi only option

Describe the bug
I have the options "Download images when sync on Wi-Fi only" and "Download images when read on Wi-Fi only" set to ON. It used to work correctly: images (article thumbnails) were not shown on mobile data, but they were shown on Wi-Fi. Since one of the latest updates, the images are always downloaded and shown, even on mobile data. These switches seem to have no effect. As a result, my mobile data usage has increased significantly and articles are harder to read, as I have to swipe through pointless image to reach the article text. Is it a bug, or do I have to change some settings? I installed the app on a new, clean phone and the effect is the same.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Turn on mobile data, turn off Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to Settings, Sync, click Traffic, turn all the switches ON.
  3. Synchronize the feeds.
  4. Click on an article to open its article view (the feed must provide thumbnails for articles)

Expected behavior
Only text should be provided, no thumbnail images. Instead, the images are displayed.

In 4.3.0, images are no longer shown. However, there is still a large empty space where the images are supposed to be. It wasn't like this before the latest changes. Is it possible to remove this space?

please try 4.3.1

Testing 4.3.1. Now image placeholders are displayed in place of the empty space. Still not ideal. Besides, sometimes images are displayed, in about 1/50 cases.
