[Surface Go 2] Unable to wake up from sleep induced by Type Cover closing

The surface go 2 goes to sleep once the type cover is closed and doesn't wake up even after pressing the power key or the type cover keys. When it is put to sleep using the power button then it wakes up on the press of keys on the type cover.
Another thing is when I close the type cover and open it again within a short time like 30 seconds then pressing the keys on the type cover wakes up the device. But if I leave it for any longer then it won't wake up.
I also tried using the suspend_s3 option to disable suspend to idle but the symptoms are still the same.
