Is there any way I could emulate (?) active monitor mode?

I have a RTL8812AU adapter, which unfortunately does not support active monitor mode. However, would it be possible to "fake" the ACKs through a different tool or do I have to buy the card? I was thinking that there could be an emulation layer between, per se, airodump-ng and owl.
