Sending custom built template with sendgrid API?

Issue Summary

Our project has an option of creating custom built templates for emails. Back then we weren't using SendGrid API but due to business requirements complexity, we ended up using SendGrid for emails. This is a great service that has made sending emails a lot easier but there is problem that pertains to using custom built templates module. We were using an editor for saving both html and email body along with attachments (comprised of file URLS from cloud storage). I checked SendGrid documentations but found no reference to using custom templates and attachments as well without using SendGrid template APIs (as that will require rebuilding entire html module from scratch). Is it possible to use custom html templates (using handlebars) instead of SendGrid template APIs?
