Thoughts on custom resources

I'm curious if you'd be open to a PR converting the LWRPs to custom resources with improved converge messaging? It would require compat_resource to to bring some custom resource functionality back to Chef 12.1, but it would also remove the need for the apt and yum cookbooks.
