Day-based alerts/promotions

Opened this issue · 1 comments

We use our social media to alert riders to irregular but semi-common events like extreme weather (heat waves, heavy rain, ice), road/bridge closures (Fleet Week, major construction, etc), and major events (Rose Festival, PDXWLF). It could be useful to bring that info into the calendar so that those alerts are closer to the source and more readily discovered. For example, admins could write some sort of object that's available to clients and conditionally displayed based on date. This could be accomplished anywhere on the spectrum from mostly ad-hoc files added manually to the repo to database-ified highly structured data available via API.

Noting in case it's useful: Mastodon accounts have an RSS feed built-in, by appending .rss to the profile as in https://pdx.social/@shift2bikes.rss. We could possibly use specific hashtags for alert posts and use that feed? Or not, might be more complicated than it's worth, but just floating ways to use existing comms if possible.

Could also consider using Hugo's blogging features to add content (via CMS or code) which could then be used in various ways.
