shoes/shoes-deprecated

Debian package is outdated (= ancient)

So apparently the Shoes version in Debian/Ubuntu hasn't been updated since 2008 :/

There's a Debian issue from 2010 about it being outdated, but from what I can see the old version is still in there.

@jrgifford seems to know more about it since he's mentioned in the issue.

Should we push to have it pulled completely? Anyone familiar with the Debian processes who knows how that would work?

Pulling things from debian is a very long, tangled and complex process. I
would advise against it.

How close are we to having shoes4 somewhat ready for packaging like this?
That influences the end result.

Well I just checked and the last version of jRuby in my repos (which should be updated soon) is 1.5.x. We'd wanna have 1.7. So umm yeah could take a while :-)

We could package our own jruby to get around that.
