Add 5V power to USB port (for Pi Zero)

Opened this issue · 3 comments

Can you add 5V power to USB port?
So I can connect the Pi Zero with just one cable.
And it does not require an additional power adapter.
The Pi Zero consumes less than 600mA of power.
Perhaps that 5V buck circuit can handle the load.

Interesting idea 🤔 Mmhmmmm, it could work 🤔 would be cool if the existing usb-c could be used for powering the Pi Zero at the same time it is used for serial but I don't think it works this way 🙈 Have to think about where there could be space for another usb-c for power ... maybe some thing like a vertically stacked USB-C double thingy or so, if something like this exists.

I think it will work.
I have used a OTG cable with power supply.

It would be nice too if you could add 2 pin holes with 12V and GND maybe next to the power socket. In the front part of the board you have already 4 holes for mounting. With some spacer one could design a carrier board that can take a NanoPi NEO v1.4 (Allwinner H3) or a Pi Zero or a ZeroPi (this is not a Pi Zero). Like a sandwich. To supply any future carrier board with power this small modification would be nice. The carrier board itself can use a down stepper (12V to 5V) to supply the Pi or other micro controllers .
