Blog and Blog Post display names (singular_name) not configurable

Hi,
thanks for the module, and sorry to bother.
There does not seem to be a way as far as I can tell to change the Blog / BlogPost display names.
I tried static property in extensions, variable in configs, and even config using Injector but I believe this is because the $singular_name property is not declared on Class itself.
If there is a way to do it that does not involve extending the Blog itself can someone please pinpoint me to the right approach?
