Add consumed emissions for Alaska and Hawaii

Opened this issue · 2 comments

Currently, none of the BAs located in Alaska or Hawaii are included in the consumed emissions results, because we do not have any interchange data for these BAs. If each of these BAs are isolated systems, then the consumed emission rate would be the same as the generated emission rate. If not, then we would need to try and identify a source of data about interchange to calculate consumed rates.

Next steps:

  • Research whether the various BAs in Hawaii interconnected or isolated systems
  • If connected, research whether there is any interchange data available for these BAs

In a related question, all of our Hawaii data is currently aggregated to HECO or HI Miscellaneous. However, it seems that HECO only serves the island of Oahu. We might be able to use information about which island each plant is located on to create island-specific grid regions.

It also looks like based on transmission line GIS data for Alaska, parts of Alaska's grid are unconnected and act like islands: https://gis.data.alaska.gov/datasets/DCCED::alaska-energy-authority-library/explore?layer=15&location=60.935827%2C-127.454517%2C4.60
