Incompatible with BuddyBoss theme

BuddyBoss is one of the most popular BuddyPress themes ever, and new BuddyBoss users are getting this error message on plugin installation:
'BuddyPress Feeds can't be activated because your site doesn't meet all requirements... Plugin "BuddyPress" of a valid version >=2.2 is not activated"'
They've recently rebuilt the theme, and it includes a customised version of the BuddyPress plugin that replaces the default BuddyPress plugin.
BuddyPress files are now located in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddyboss-platform instead of /public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress
I think that bp-feeds can't find BuddyPress files in the new location, so the plugin can't be installed for these users.
