Sync with remote dokuwiki on https server takes VERY long

I'm syncing from my local system to a remote installation. The remote site is using SSL.
After the "Sync profile" is created it tries to connect to the server to get the server-version and last sync date-time. This takes very long.

Pressing the sync button, also takes a very long time to complete. When selecting the posts to sync, it takes a very very long time again.

Is there a way to see why this is taking so long, compared to using the non-ssl version ?
