Spyder Notebook not displaying images: Javascript output is disabled in JupyterLab"

Description of your problem

Running a notebook that tries to display an object returns message javascript is disabled in jupyterlab instead of showing the plot.

Note: I had reported this (with a different command( on the spyder github (here) some months ago, but it suddenly got solved. Now after having reinstalled everything fresh, it happens again (with any command that tries to display an image).

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Write the following in a notebook cell
   import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.scatter([0,1], [0,2])
2. Run cell

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected a plot. Instead it returns javascript is disabled in jupyterlab. It works fine on a standard Jupyter-notebook outside of Spyder.
