Particles always on top

Hello,

I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, but I'm trying to use the particle engine to create some kind of "wall torches" inside a maze. The problem that I have, is that these torches are always on top and visible when they shouldn't (behind a wall, for instance).

I can post part of my code if needed, but I want to know if this is desired behaviour, I'm missing something or it is in fact an issue.
