bringing sphere to different positions

Hi Stemkoski, I am trying to build like something in the pic i have attached.. I am able to make a sphere but dont know how to position it at top.. when i use sphere.position.set(x,y,z) to bring sphere at top it changes its shape to oval.. any help will be appreciated.
