how do I do a character count in l3afpad ???

I want to do a character count, but there doesn't seem to be any plugin or anything that does that :(

The idea is to use watch -t wc --chars file.txt in a terminal window instead,
or for you to fork and add the functionality in a branch of l3afpad.
