Options to hide ChitChat in the dock

Now that there is a menubar item too, would be great if you can hide ChitChat on the Dock, so its only visible on the menubar, reducing clutter on the Dock for something that most of the time is running in the background anyway.

  • 1 for this.

That seems quite counter-intuitive to me, honestly. Menu-bar applications are typically windowless applications like Caffeine, Hocus Focus, F.lux and Slate. Chit Chat, however, clearly has a windowed view – heck, the entire application revolves around this one window. Appears to be a classic case of a Dock-based app to me..

For me, menu bar applications are 'background' tasks that I dont need much, while the dock is filled with applications I use a lot. Chitchat is a typical application that I use a few minutes a lot, and then want to get of the dock because I am not using it for a few hours.

+1 as Apple's Messages.app has the very same behaviour

With Messages for WhatsApp (http://apple.co/1O8dt4M) we choose the preferences pane so users are able to run the application in what they prefer the menubar, Dock or both. You should know, would you include this in ChitChat that running an application solely in the menu bar comes with a few caveats.

Running an application in the menu bar (without the Dock) Apple considers it to run in background and therefor you do not have a Menu nor can you easily swap between ChitChat and other applications with (CMD+Tab). It will also not show in Force Quit.

Also be aware that if you put a checkbox "Hide from Dock" and "Show in menu bar" separately that someone could accidentally have it in neither and running in background completely and the only way to quit such an application is through the activity monitor utility app.
