Problem with latest version and Seagate 8tb Archive HDDs in external enclosure usb 3.0 connected to usb 2.0 port.

I have been using KeepAliveHD 1.62 beta for a few months and lately I have been having my music stop playing when playing HD videos from an 8tb Seagate Archive drive and having KA set to write every 22 seconds to the drive. It didn't happen constantly but it happened at least once or twice in a night during a 4 hour period. I checked the hard drive thoroughly with SeaTools and chkdsk and didn't find any problems. Got this error in the Windows system error logs.

Application popup: .NET-BroadcastEventWindow.4.0.0.0.348c725.0: KeepAliveHD.exe - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \KeepAliveHD.txt; the data has been lost. This error may be caused if the device has been removed or the media is write-protected.

After this popup I got many errors while playing the video and the video and sound stopped completely for over 30 seconds until I loaded a new track into the player.

Here is the error I got over and over in the error log related to the hard drive it was reading from (and KA was writing to): An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 during a paging operation.

Once I turned off KA on that hard drive it didn't have any errors and I tested it for over 12 hours straight playing videos.

Did you ever have this issue again? I have been getting these same errors recently with a WD Blue drive attached to a Dock and was wondering if it could be something to do with KeepAlive HD?

Did turning off KA completely resolve the errors for you?

Brds7t7 YES! I did overcome this problem by making the write time longer, I increased the time to 60 seconds and now haven't had a problem since.

I've always had my write time set to 4 minutes so don't think altering it will make a difference for me. My dock goes into rest mode after 5 minutes, so I can't set it to longer than that.
I think uninstalling KA and seeing if that solves the issue might be my only option for now.
The error has corrupted my backups twice and I've tested with 2 different cables and 2 different docks and it still happens, so it's definitely not those causing the issue.

Have you tried with the read mode instead of writing to the disk? I really don't see a reason for these errors.
Although I don't like these workarounds maybe this would help.

Many thanks for the reply stsrki. I've tried using the read mode, but sometimes it doesn't seem to work and the dock still goes into suspend mode after 5 minutes.
I've looked into the article you posted and I have my external dock set to 'quick removal' policy, so I might try to change that.

To be honest, I don't think it's KeepaliveHD causing my particular issue, but I'm testing it as one "possible" option. I think it could be down to my Intel SATA/AHCI or USB3 drivers.

I'll try uninstalling KA for a few weeks and will see if that makes any difference. If I'm still getting the errors then I can definitely rule out KA as the problem. I'll test a few things, and when I've found out what's causing the issue I'll report back.

Just a quick update. I've now had KeepaliveHD uninstalled for almost 2 months and haven't had a single Delayed Write error during this time and doing multiple backups to different drives everyday. So uninstalling the software has solved the issue for me.

I wish I could give you back some more info as to what was causing it, but my logs looked exactly the same as PJP1111's logs. There wasn't much info to help with the cause of the issue.

I did try to use the read mode instead of write, but sometimes it just wouldn't wake my drive up, so the dock would still go to sleep again.

Brds7t7 thanks for the update. I haven't had a problem since increasing the write time to 60 seconds.
