Ability to openRoute from component containing Router

Hello, I'm building a component which wraps react-router.

This component looks something like this

  actionHandler: function(action) {
   // open a new route here
  // unable to call this.toRoute, this.refs.router.toRoute
  },

  render: function() {
    return (
        <Router 
          ref="router"
          firstRoute={this.state.route}
          customAction={this.actionHandler}
        />
    );
  },

Any ideas how I could expose the toRoute from the wrapper container?
