Opened this issue · 5 comments

Context/background

Create a filter (or something related) for "ReDI Women in Tech" for mentors and mentee.
The "filter" means that she/they are females looking for a mentor/mentee as a women in tech.

Why are we doing this?
As a part of the female friendly platform features initiatives.

What needs to be done?

  • Analyse the best option to create a filter (or something related) for "ReDI Women in Tech"

@fortini I would suggest to split the topic of going the rabbit hole in identifying who is a woman in tech, how call non-binary people in tech and how to distil the companies that support women, diversity, equality and other stuff, but for our purposes I would boil it down to two actions:

  • adding "diverse" and "prefer not to share" to our gender list
  • adding a filter by gender for "Search for mentors" and "Browse job seeker"

After a few discussions, we decided to take a first step and implement a filter for "ReDI Women in Tech" for mentors and mentee.

The discussions will continue for TP after the job fair.

@fortini as we discussed today: adding the gender to all three profiles (mentor, mentee, job seeker) shall not be a problem at all. We should probably go for the industry standard "diverse" instead of "non-binary" and for an option not to share.
According to @helloanil and @ericbolikowski we could also derive the gender from pronouns on Talent Pool.
-> adding gender fields / values could be done on TP and CON.

For the filters, also here we could add a filter for both use cases, searching for a mentor and browsing candidates, which would be a quick win for the gender topic.

If you still would like to not make these changes on TP, we should probably remove the tag "Summer Job fair 2023" from this ticket, cause CON has no direct impact on/from the Job Fairs.

Also one more thing: a filter for mentee is not really a filter. As mentors we don't have any lists with mentees. We could open another issue for mentors to reduce the mentees who can apply for the mentorship with them to a certain gender, but we should be careful here cause we already have hundreds of unassigned mentors. Restricting their options to a particular gender would reduce their chances for a match even further.

Here is the design for this ticket.
