[CON: Find a Mentor page]: Add a clarification message about how we select matching mentors

Opened this issue · 3 comments

Context/background

One of the action points of the user tests conducted in December 2022 is to add a message that clarifies how we select the matching mentors that are displayed on the "Find a Mentor" page.
The background of this need is that the current design, including the filters on the search result page, seem to be very prominent and to confuse the users. They start using the filters and reducing the pool of mentors available to them, as they dont understand that the page is already displaying the best match based on their and mentors profile.

Why are we doing this?

During the user tests, it was not clear to some users that the "Find a Mentor" page displayed already a selection of matching mentors based on the input they gave by filling in the profile page. By applying additional filters, they reduce their chances to find suitable mentor.

What needs to be done?

Add a clear message, telling the users that the mentors displayed on the page are a selection based on the information they gave while filling in the profile and probably change the way the filters are displayed so they are not as dominant on the search result page as they are now.

  • Analyze the current situation of the "Find a Mentor" page regarding this problem
  • Quick research on best practices/on how competitors solve that kind of problem
  • Create a design solution for displaying the message
  • Present the design in one of the bi-weekly meetings to get feedback
  • Iterate on the design (if necessary) and paste the finished design file into this ticket
