Do you think it'd be useful to have the scrapers also identify places on the page where a 'now playing' image should be inserted? This could be combined with a 'minimized' playgrub (see mockup) player that just showed the percentage played of the current track, so users could still browse the original site (I'm noticing how much screen space the player takes up using the MacBook at the moment!)
