Can you be more specific with what you are trying to accomplish? Maybe some example code or print screens.
I used this in a plugin I made with support for 2 custom post types in 1 side-menu with some default templates attached to the plugin. That's where this code came in.

This is one that I wouldn't mind taking a look at resolving; however, right now I'm in a rewrite for 4.7.
If you can clarify your steps to reproduce with CPTs, I'll take a look. For now, I'll mark this as an unresolved question.
