I'm also experiencing some behavior that could be related to this issue:
Running Summary Stats in ArcMap is successfully the first and second time the tool is run but crashes completely on the third attempt. This hard crash completely closes the ArcMap session. Oddly, the tool seems to run fine in ArcCatalog for me. I tested the issue in ArcMap multiple times and occasionally would get this traceback error message:
