Cannot back up earlier text messages after restoring lost texts

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Perform SMS backup of all texts
2. Restore text msgs from the past (used GOSMS) to application
3. Press "Backup again"
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Items that had not previously been backed up (in this case with dates which may
be earlier than latest message, but not necessarily predating earliest
messages) should be synced.
System returns: "there were no items to backup"
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.1.1
on Droid3, Android version 2.3.4 (Gingerbread?)
Please provide any additional information below.
When I first ran the backup, I had just under 1000 texts in one of my
conversations. I realized earliest dates of conversation were missing, so
restored an earlier GOSMS backup. Earlier-dated messages were added to
conversation, now over 1300 texts. Recent bugs are preventing texts from
completing transmission, so I was looking for a remote backup option in order
to keep the internal storage message load down. (Messages do not back up to SD
card with GOSMS- stay on internal storage.) I love UI of GOSMS, but since last
update, I am missing many messages- dangerous for my work!
All backups are in .xml format: any other suggestions for storing backlog of
texts on my PC? Other recommended apps? Just clean out msgs? (Still losing
msgs in thin air after clearing cache.)

Further problem: Since I installed SMS backup, not all texts in a thread are
backing up. There are current texts in my phone which are not making it to
gmail....

In particular one of my longer conversations is missing several thousand
messages. The initial backup took quite a while and gave me no errors so far as
I know. The program said it was backing up all the messages on my phone, timing
and progress information confirmed the proper amount, but a large section of
messages is missing from apparently before I activated auto-backup.
