out of memory error in blender

Out of memory in cuStreamCreate(&cuda_stream_, CU_STREAM_NON_BLOCKING) (C:\Users\blender\git\blender-v400\blender.git\intern\cycles\device\cuda\queue.cpp:21)

It's not a complex scene it's just the default cube. It works for a few seconds, then stops updating the render. If I switch to a different mode and return to render view, it displays an error message. It's not using too much system or GPU memory. edit: it also doesnt like when i zoom in on the cube
