Fun fact: even now that link is open sourced, your findings are very interesting since ableton did not choose document any technical details about how link really works.

With your knowledge and looking into the code you code very well help to add documentation how link works. This could be used to reimplement link under a difference license. Currently ableton choose to publish link under a dual license (GPL vs proprietary).
