change password, updates, and sshd

I tried changing the root password @ the "#" prompt, with no luck. I looked for passwd in /bin, /usr/bin, and /usr/sbin. I also changed to /din/bash (default is /bin/ash). How can I change root password?

Also, is there an option to update in the future via cli? I checked for apt & yum with no luck. I also don't see the sshd service available. Would love to have the option to ssh into HA. Thanks in advance
