Supermium keeps crashing
Opened this issue · 18 comments
I'm on Win 7. I'm still trying to get this marked as my default on my Win 10 laptop & it's not happening. sigh
Anyway, on my Win 7 desktop, it keeps crashing non stop at least 3-4 times per day. At first it was only once. I never had that happen before.
I don't even have all of my profiles open 5-6 & it can crash with only 3 and my memory & CPU are low enough.
I wanted to see if there's an update on the browser & I can't see anything under help. I went to look online & found this site, is this your site? I thought you were Canadian. https://www.supermium.org/
It says the latest version is way higher than what I am at, & yet the browser doesn't say I'm up-to-date, or if there is an update. Shouldn't it say that?
Version 126.0.6478.249 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Please help. I can't work like this.
Thanks
I saw that website and I don't know that I trust it (I remember the creator of Supermium stating that this wasn't official, it should be https://win32subsystem.live/supermium/ instead). Anyways can you try the latest version on the GitHub page and see if this is happening (updates should show in the releases on the GitHub)
I would suggest running version 132 R5.02.
Unfortunately the Supermium update client work was suspended due to the loss of Supermium build infrastructure several months ago. I hope to return to building the client after version 138 has been released.

Hi there,
Ok, but I wanted to update it within Supermium so I don't lose my settings & bookmarks.
Thanks

Hi there,
Sorry, I don't understand what you are saying about the loss of Supermium.
So I can't update it within Supermium?
How do I update it so I don't lose my settings & bookmarks?
I hope that fixes the problem. I can't even get it to stay open longer than 30 minutes sometimes.
Thanks
Supermium installations should retain all user data and settings. You may make a backup of your user data before installing if needed; it should be located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Supermium\User Data.

Is that under Program files or program files x86? Or both?
Can you also please respond to my thread about making Supermium my default on my Win 10 laptop? I'm confused.
Thanks

Just type in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Supermium in the address bar in a Windows Explorer window and you'll find the "User Data" folder that you can back up.

Ok, I'm getting this error right away - https://i.imgur.com/IeMkQx9.png
Thanks
You will have to close the browser when backing up the profile.

Ok, a couple of things:
- It installed very quickly, is that normal? It does say it's version Version 132.0.6834.226 (Official Build) (64-bit)
- Then I got this & I didn't know what to do click on, but it looks like it worked. Whether it keeps crashing, I will have to see in a few hours. https://i.imgur.com/nDEVskY.png
- At first it wouldn't install because it said chrome was still open & I had to manually end task. Why when I shut them down (most were closed during the crashes) they aren't removed from task manager. That may be an issue.
Thanks a ton, I hope the crashing will stop now
P.S. Nope, it just crashed. So the culprit is that Supermium & tab suspender are conflicting, & it was never like this before. I've always used that extension, but I know that everything has gone to hell since manifest 3 :( -

Is there any way you can figure out the conflict? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
Hi,
My computer is revving non stop with only 2 profiles running, & it wasn't doing that before the update. It was crashing, but not revving without stopping.
It's going to harm my HD, so how do I get it back to the previous version I was on, or before you did this bigger update, b/c I don't know what version that is or where to get it.
I see you changed the graphics of the tabs so they aren't as square & smaller like they were before. I prefer them the old way. They take up more tab room. I know it's your software, just a suggestion please.
It will take me hours to unsuspend hundreds (maybe even a thousand) of tabs on 7 profiles with some having 3 windows, so I need to go back sooner rather than later. I can't turn off the extension until all of the tabs are unsuspended, otherwise I loose them.
People are saying that this isn't a problem on Chrome, just so you know.
Thanks
You can download an older version from here: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/tag/v126-r7 and then uninstall the current version from Add/Remove Programs. Click "yes" on the option to keep your existing profile(s). Then install 126 again.

So I install first, then uninstall second?
-
Ok, so keeping my existing profile will keep my bookmarks?
-
Is that version the last version before you did the major update?
-
Did you read my previous message & can you fix it?
Thanks
-
Uninstall first, then install 126.
-
Your bookmarks should be retained. If there are issues, then replace the user profile with the backup you made before installing 132.
-
Yes, it is the last version in the 126 series.
-
Many people have reported similar issues, but I have not been able to reproduce them and performance logging attempts did not reveal anything. Until that changes, it will be hard to fix.

Yeh I had to recopy that app data folder again b/c I've been working on filing sites into folders.
I did that, tried to uninstall & got this error - https://i.imgur.com/zLjU854.png
I told it to keep my data.
Help
Thanks
Make sure that no Supermium processes are running. If unsure, reboot and try uninstalling again.
Hi there,
How are you doing?
I hope you read this comment.
- So the dev for Tab Suspender finally rolled out a new update, so thank gawd I'm no longer crashing or revving, but my memory is still on the high side.
Any luck in finding the memory leak?
I thought of something. Does the fact that you are on Manifest 2 & he's on Manifest 3 matter? Maybe I should everyone who's affected what extensions they are using. Cuz I never had this issue before & I've been using you for about a year+.
- This has to be (I think) a browser issue.
It started on Odysee about 1-2 months ago (I don't remember when, it's when I was having the other issues.) I click the back arrow button, & instead of it showing me the last page I was on for whatever, it shows me like 10 duplicates of the page I'm on.
It never did that before. I could click back, & it would go to my uploads page or the last video page I was on. The uploads page is nowhere in sight even though that's how I almost always go to my videos in the first place.
That's a browser issue, right?
Here's my channel - https://odysee.com/%24/invite/%40OurFreeSociety:2
- Is there any way you can switch the tab design to the way it is in this version. I really didn't like the new updates's look. I don't know how many other things you changed as far as the design, b/c I wasn't on there long enough to really analyze.
I don't want to lose updates just due to design :)
- I know this isn't the right thread, but I went to try & reinstall Supermium on my Win 10 & it won't let me uninstall from programs & I can't restart right now. The last time I tried to restart, Win 10 was blocking my computer. I HATE WIN 10.
Do you know why it won't let me restart & no, Supermium isn't open, I haven't been able to use it since I installed it.
- Anyway, a geek told me that Supermium isn't registered on something. I'd have to find his comment if you really want it. I imagine you know what he's referring to, something about a fork.
They have been trying to help me with all of my computer issues, so he looked you up.
I don't care if you are registered with goolag, but does that cause issues due to this registration?
- I have to look up Ublock origin which has been around for I have no idea how many years, & I assume millions use it, goolag just removed them from their store or whatever it's called. No idea why. I'd have to see if it's a manifest 3 thing too. sigh
My feelings towards goolag is the same as with MS & ALL of silicon valley evil tech companies.
I think I had one more thing to tell you, but I can't remember right now.
Thank you for all of your hard work.

I think I forgot to quote you, so I hope you still see that I wrote you.
Thanks
