Reorganization Ideas

So, I think some reorganization would make sense. I'd suggest we remove general and reoganize it along these lines to add:

  • Aggregators & Dashboards: Apple HealthKit, Google Fit, Gyroscope, Exist.io, Zenobase, Validic, FitnessSyncer
  • Tally: Nomie, Track This For Me, etc.
  • Location: Moves

I'd rename Activity to Activity and Fitness. (FYI - Strava likely should be here rather than under wearables.)

Obviously organization is tough since some of these tools cross categories but I think a rule of thumb could be categorizing according to its primary usage.

Yea you are right in that the reorganization can be tough when it comes to cross-category tools. Agree with the suggestions though. I'll edit it and see what it looks like.

I think we should keep this issue open so that we can keep a discussion going.

By the way, do you think there is any value in some more top level categories? For example:

  • Books
  • Talks
  • Youtube Channels
  • Papers

The more links and resources the better, I'd say, so no issue in adding more sections if you have something to share in them.

How do you feel about media tracking via something like Last.Fm (Music) or Trakt.tv (films and TV watching)? I could also add GoodReads as a book you've read tracker.

Reorganization you added looks good, btw.

I'm not opposed to tracking music, books, or movies. Although I don't personally associate that with QS, I can see the argument being made that it is a form of self tracking.

Any idea for a category name?

Assuming something about the self can be tracked, then I suppose it fits within Quantified Self. I'll try and write up some links and references on tracking music, movies and books.

Not sure on category. Maybe "Media Consumption"

Thanks @markwk . Merged it. We can build on that.

Following up on this thread, I added two more cool tools, WordCounter and PhotoStats. One tracks your word count as a writer and the other the photos you take on your phone. I wasn't 100% sure where best to put them so I put them with Media Consumption for now.

What about just adding multi-function tools to all of their applicable categories.
This would:
a) Show you all the actual tools you could use if you are looking at just one category.
b) Give a better overview of which tools can do more than one thing, which could be useful if your preference was to use fewer tool.
