mod key not working in VMware Workstation Kali Guest

After running the install on kali 2022.4 and swtiching to i3. mod key is not working. OS in VMware Workstation on Windows 11 host with Kali Guest. Did my Try Harder but could not google-fu what the issue could be. No keyboard shortcuts are working in i3, all works fine when I switch to Xfce. Not much lack with i3 on Kali for a while.
