The debian package is .deb they(docker) just compress the package static as .tgz(gzip) so the link its not for Debian package (https://download.docker.com/linux/static/stable/x86_64/)

@ricardson indeed, thanks for pointing that out. The README is mostly cribbed from the original google-chrome stuff, I'll update it. 👍
