Some files just refuse to play after a while

For some reason, some files refuse to open if you play them enough times. This is temporarily fixed by renaming the file or directory, although strangely enough, just changing the capitalization seems to be enough to fix it, which is strange because file capitalization doesn't really matter on Windows.
I usually get around this problem by renaming the folder my MIDIs are in to random gibberish whenever the player starts acting up, but this is only a temporary solution.
When the affected files open, the player seems to attempt to open them, but immediately closes them after half a second. The progressbar, reverb, etc don't appear either - the filename just flashes across the screen for a second.
The bug seems to be related to some type of recent files thing (?), even though BXPlayer doesn't have that kind of functionality (although the beatnik.ocx
engine might).
The bug seems to occur after you've opened a specific file enough times, although how many times seems to be random.
Have you been able to reproduce this recently? I have been trying but without success.
