Disable debug by default

First of all, thanks for the great work on this package!
As for $bem-debug, wouldn't it make more sense to have it set to false by default and then allow users to enable it themselves?

Yes, you are right, it would be better to disable $bem-debug by default. In 2.2.1 this issue is fixed.
