The messages coming from the bot should contain a tag describing that the message doesn't come from real IRC but a gateway. This prevents accidental private messages to a user which is not present on IRC, or worse, is a different person on IRC.
One possible location for such tag could be the prefix character in the slot reserved for an operator sign.
