How to install nginx-perl?

Does nginx-perl come pre-installed with NGINX? I'm guessing not because the embedded Perl docs [1] for NGINX seem to be a small subset of nginx-perl?

Otherwise how to install nginx-perl with NGINX? There seems to be no install file / instructions?

Okay, my first assumption is that nginx-perl is a replacement and/or upgrade for the embedded Perl which comes with NGINX. However, this is not the case. Instead it's the other way around; a version of the NGINX sources have been embedded into the nginx-perl module. I could follow the installation instructions here [1] to make it work. Everything compiled and worked fine so far, even in early 2016 :-)
