Saga choreography is a pattern used in distributed systems for managing long-lived transactions that span multiple services or components. Unlike saga orchestration, which relies on a central coordinator to manage the sequence of actions, saga choreography involves decentralized coordination, with each service or component involved in the saga being responsible for coordinating its own actions.

Key Concepts:

  • Decentralized Coordination: In saga choreography, there is no central coordinator. Instead, each service or component participating in the saga communicates directly with other services through events to coordinate the execution of the transaction.

  • Event-Driven Communication: Saga choreography relies on asynchronous, event-driven communication between services. Services emit events to signal the completion of their actions or to request actions from other services.

  • Local Decisions: Each service makes local decisions based on the events it receives, determining its next action or whether to initiate compensating actions in response to failures or exceptions.

Benefits:

  • Simplicity: Saga choreography simplifies the architecture by removing the need for a central coordinator, resulting in a more decentralized and loosely coupled system.
