Corpus of errors collected automatically by Revita language learning system
paragraphs_with_manual_annotation.txt
includes short paragraphs with manually annotated answers from language learners of Revita.
Format of the data:
- 1st column: learners' answers
- 2nd column: if an answer is different from the original word in the sentence, the column has a replaced word, otherwise -- None.
- 3rd column: Err -- an error tag, MA -- grammatically acceptable alternative answers.
- 4th column: manually assigned error/MA tag, e.g. 'Aspect: imp/perf' means that form of perfect aspect was used insted of imperfect.
- 5th column: 0 -- an error label, 1 -- grammatically correct words.
- 6th column: Hard -- if annotators couldn't agree on annotation of the answer, it has a tag Hard. Final decision about correctness was made by an expert.
The file includes 6141 paragraphs with on average 2 sentences per paragraph.
errors_tagged.m2
contains sentences with learner answers which was tagged using ERRANT updated for Russian. This data includes spelling errors.
The directory automatically_extracted_errors
contains several files with annotated errors from Revita Learner Corpus (ReLC)
gram_err.csv
- file with grammatical errors (an answer given by the learner has the same lemma as the expected answer, so they are forms from the same paradigm);nonword_err.csv
- file with errors which do not exist in the dictionary (spelling errors);wronglemma_err.csv
- file with errors which lemmas are different from the lemmas of the expected answers.
Files starting with 'correct' have correct forms in the same sentences (also marker by underscores). All these files were automatically annotated.
Every file has the following columns:
- learner's id;
- time when an error was made;
- attempt (the system provides currently 2 attempts to practice the same exercise);
- sentence with errors marked by underscores ;
File annotated_sent.csv
is a file with manual annotation. New columns here are 'label' and 'category'.
Labels:
- 0: grammatical error;
- 1: correct answer;
- 2: pragmatic error;
- 3: broken or context is not enough to annotate;
- 4: non-word error;
- 7: other.
The category includes more detailed information about the given asnwer -- how is it different from the expected answer. For example, tag 'Tense: fut/past, Number: s/p' means that an answer is in the future tense and singular number, but the expected answer is plural past tense verb.
File manually_annotated_sent.csv
has a fragment of data where all words
marked with ++ are annotated by error type, e.g. 'Case: gen/nom', which means
that genitive case was used instead of the nominative.

abstract = "We present the first version of the longitudinal Revita Learner Corpus (ReLCo), for Russian. In contrast to traditional learner corpora, ReLCo is collected and annotated fully automatically, while students perform exercises using the Revita language-learning platform. The corpus currently contains 8 422 sentences exhibiting several types of errors{---}grammatical, lexical, orthographic, etc.{---}which were committed by learners during practice and were automatically annotated by Revita. The corpus provides valuable information about patterns of learner errors and can be used as a language resource for a number of research tasks, while its creation is much cheaper and faster than for traditional learner corpora. A crucial advantage of ReLCo that it grows continually while learners practice with Revita, which opens the possibility of creating an unlimited learner resource with longitudinal data collected over time. We make the pilot version of the Russian ReLCo publicly available.",
